Easiest way to have compact lists in LaTeX

The easiest way to have compact lists is to include the mdwlist package (\usepackage{mdwlist}) and then append a * to the list environment (\begin{enumerate*} or \begin{itemize*} and the same for \end). I found the tip in an entry on Terminally Incoherent, which has many more good tips.
