Changes to X11 under Cygwin

Tags: linux January 14, 2009

For lack of a better category, the tag for this post is Linux, since Cygwin is sort of like Linux on Windows. Anyway, recently the interface to X11 has been changed. The package that contains the startx script is no longer in the main repository. To get similar functionality I had to use the command 'xwin -multiwindow &' to start the X server and 'xterm +tb &' to create a new window. The multiwindow option tells X to have each X window in its own Windows window. The +tb command disables the toolbar. Yes, putting a plus disables something and putting a minus enables it. Probably a side effect of most command line parameters starting with a minus.
