What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is the most popular drug-free natural healthcare approach in North America.  It is a safe and effective form of care for all ages, from infants to seniors.  Chiropractic is based on the following principles:

  1. The body is self healing and self regulating.
  2. The nervous system controls and co-ordinates all body functions and is therefore the master system.
  3. Subluxations interfere with the function of the nervous system.
  4. Chiropractic adjustments reduce subluxations and interference to the nervous system thereby restoring function and life potential.
The purpose of Chiropractic is to remove interferences from our nervous system called subluxations.  When a person is free from subluxations, they are more able to fully engage in and enjoy their lives.  Chiropractic allows people to achieve a level of health and well being beyond limiting pain and dysfunction.
Why Are Nerves Important to Health?
Our bodies are composed of trillions of cells that make up each of our different parts.  The function, coordination, and regulation of these parts are all accomplished by a continuous flow of healthy signals though all of the different nerves in our body which make up the nervous system.  Thus the nervous system helps to coordinate and control every action our bodies perform.  Some of these actions are conscious and we think about them, such as the movement of our hand towards an object or the sensation of sunshine on our skin.  Others are unconsciously performed such as the beating of our heart, the digesting of our food or the activation of our immune system.
What is a Subluxation?
A subluxation is a misalignment or malfunction of a spinal bone which causes irritation to the delicate spinal nerve tissue as it exits from the spinal cord to the rest of the body causing nerve interference.  If present, interference to nerve function interrupts the normal flow of healthy signals from the brain to the cells of the body.  Sometimes this will be consciously felt (such as the sensation of neck or back pain), while other times it will affect the body on deeper levels and go unnoticed at for weeks or even years.
What Causes Subluxations and Nerve Interference?
Throughout the course of our lives, we are exposed to many different stresses and strains from our environment.  Some are big catastrophes while others are small annoyances.  Some are physical, such as lifting heavy objects, being in a car accident, or running a marathon.  Others are emotional in nature such as anxiety, constant worry, or challenges within our relationships at work or home.  In certain cases these stressors overload the nervous system producing excess tension and imbalance in the spinal nerves and their protective coverings.  If left uncorrected, this imbalance will remain to cause a subluxation causing nerve interference.
How Does Chiropractic Work?
Chiropractic adjustments reduce subluxations by releasing pressure and irritation on the nerves.  The gentle corrective force from a chiropractic adjustment help the body release built up tension from subluxations.  This allows for better positioning and rebalancing of the spinal bones, giving nerves the freedom to function as they should.

When subluxations are corrected, the nerves are cleared of interference, and the normal flow of healthy nerve signals is restored.  Pain and irritation are reduced, and the body parts are capable of better performance, coordination, and harmony.  A person who is free from subluxation often reaches a level of health and vitality that they have never experienced before!
