DB2 FOR OS/390 DB2 V5 - WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
We are finally understanding the significance of DB2 Version 4.1 and its effect on our installations.
Migrations to V4.1 are complete, or at least planned and underway. However,
IBM's newest release of DB2, DB2 for OS/390 Version 5, is already here,
and this presentation will discuss some of the more "interesting" features.
For client server, we will look at the improvements to stored procedures.
Performance has numerous SQL enhancers and Sysplex Query Parallelism.
Some of the more interesting usability enhancements discussed are large table spaces and temporary tables.
And we cannot forget online reorganization in the utilities area.
Whether you are an application programmer, DBA, or systems programmer, this presentation has something for you.
Willie Favero is a senior RDBMS specialist employed by BMC Software in their Education & Services group.
He has been a database professional for more than 20 years, the last 12 years dealing primarily with DB2.
Most of this time was spent as a senior instructor for IBM.
Mr. Favero is the author of numerous articles, and has contributed to several IBM Redbooks.
He regularly speaks at national technical conferences and area user group meetings.
MILLENNIUM CHALLENGE
This presentation shows how DB2 Client/Server successfully handled the challenges of:
Solutions were developed using Intranet access via Java and JDBC, plus real-time triggers, to deliver a corporate Year 2000 software inventory application.
DB2 FOR OS/390 FUTURES AND V5 ADDITIONS
Version 5 was GA June 27, 1997, so what's next? Version X1?
Triggers, BLOBS, UDF's, UDT's, DB2 Extenders plus utility, datasharing and stored procedure enhancements are all high priority requirements.
Also after GA V5 gained some extra items like JDBC servlet support and native DL/1 calls in stored procedures.
Plus you should be getting rid of some old things like Type 1 indexes.
Hari will provide an summary of trends and directions and what's new based on the recent DB2 Technical Conference.
