DB2 BATCH PROCESSING
This presentation will initially discuss DB2 application accounting and the contribution made to
the overall elapsed time by the subordinate functions performed for the application by the DB2
subsystem. It will explain the critical factors in understanding and controlling I/O to DASD
devices, and provide rules of thumb for processor path length and I/O operations. The
presentation also covers: sequential versus random processing; DFSORT versus DB2 sort;
commit frequency and concurrency; parallel batch and multi-tasking batch.
This information will enable batch workloads to be designed for good performance, maximum
concurrency, and recoverability in the case of failures.
DB2 COMMON SERVER V2.1: THE SECRETS OF PHYSICAL DATABASE DESIGN
This presentation will discuss the issues involved in physical database design of DB2 version 2
databases combining high performance and administration flexibility. It describes the
characteristics of the three types of tablespaces, the inner workings of I/O parallelism and the
trade-offs that must be considered. It will also discuss the impact of operating system features
and RAID devices.
DB2 PARALLEL EDITION - WHAT’S NEW
DB2 Parallel Edition for AIX has proven to be a very popular database choice for Enterprises
implementing very large Data Warehouses or Data Mining systems. This presentation will
discuss several recent improvements to DB2 PE’s performance and usability and talk about the
new SQL functionality now available.
