ABSTRACTS

DB2 UDB EEE AND ESE PERFORMANCE TUNING - REAL EXPERIENCE
Platform: DB2 for Linux, Unix, Windows - Audience: All

Learn how to make your DB2 UDB EEE or ESE/DPF database perform better from someone who has been working with some of the largest Canadian customers for several years. This presentation focuses on the aspects of performance tuning that have proven to provide the biggest gain in real customer scenarios. Best practices in the areas of designing your database for performance; partitioning, disk layout and configuration are backed by real customer experiences.

Ela Polan’s 20-year career with IBM Canada, includes over 10 years in DB2 development at the IBM Canada Laboratory and more recently, over 7 years of DB2 UDB EEE and ESE/DPF database consulting in the areas of database design, tuning and administration with some of the largest data warehouse customers in Canada.

A ROADMAP TO DATA PRIVACY
Platform: DB2 Cross Platform - Audience: All

Have you been hearing about data privacy and have questions about what it is and how it is going to impact you and your company? Are you tasked with coming up with a data privacy plan? Then come and get a roadmap to data privacy for your corporation. We will compare and contrast data privacy with data security. We will review some of the major legislative acts like HIPAA and Sarbanes-Oxley that are forcing companies to implement data privacy. Finally we will review building, deploying, and monitoring your data privacy plan.

Troy L. Coleman is currently a sales engineer for SoftBase Systems. He has extensive experience in all facets of database systems development, including systems analysis and design, database and system administration, data analysis and application development. He has experience on many leading hardware platforms including DB2 UDB for OS/390, z/OS, NT, AIX, Solaris, and LINUX. Troy was the architect and lead developer of the first wireless database management software for DB2 UDB, "PocketDBA" by Expand Beyond Corp. He is an internationally recognized consultant and lecturer, specializing in DB2 database administration and application architecture. Troy is a former adjunct professor teaching database management systems for Concordia University River Forest. Currently, he is an officer and webmaster for the Midwest Database User Group.

MANAGING PACKAGES WITHIN DB2 FOR z/OS AND OS/390
Platform: DB2 for OS/390 and z/OS - Audience: All

The DB2 Package is one of the biggest enhancements in DB2 history. However, it is also a source of some system availability concerns during system catalog backup and recovery, because the number of package related objects in DSNDB06.SYSPKAGE TABLESPACE can grow dramatically.
This presentation will discuss the use of a Reverse (Re Engineering) technique for Freeing Packages that are no longer used, and Restoring Packages that we're wrongly Freed.

Key Rho is a Sr. DB2 specialist with IBM Canada, SIS Group.
