PRIDEVISION

Bruce Glawson was appointed as Vice President of Programming at PrideVision, the world’s first gay & lesbian national television network, which launched in September, 2001.

He was a key player in the successful start-up, launch and first on-air year of this groundbreaking television network, creating popular new series, strands, and PrideVision personalities.

Glawson was responsible for overseeing program acquisitions, network scheduling, original program development and production, on-air talent, on-air promotion strategy, and network branding. He was responsible for editorial management of original series and specials, and worked closely with independent & in-house producers to meet network standards.

These series (including the sports comedy series Locker Room, which was featured in the October 2002 Toronto Life and in Sports Illustrated , the travel series Bump, the fitness series Urban Fitness TV, and talk show Jawbreaker with Brad Fraser) were popular with PrideVision audiences. Several were subsequently acquired by other international networks, and one (SoGay TV produced by Zev Shalev) was nominated for a Gemini award!

PrideVision series charismatic hosts and “GayJs” soon became celebrities within the community. Series which had their Canadian premiere on PrideVision included the dramas Metrosexuality, The Secret Life of Us, Tipping the Velvet, and comedies So Graham Norton, and Gimme, Gimme Gimme.

Canadian documentaries which premiered on PrideVision included Aerlyn Weissman’s feature documentary Little Sister’s vs Big Brother, Prom Fight, the Marc Hall Story directed by Larry Peloso, Class Queers directed by Melissa Levin & Roxana Spicer and Out In The City, a documentary series about gay Montrealers.
